The Consciousness AI is a research publication and open source project.
The data controller, meaning the party that decides why and how your data is used, is:

Contact for any question in this notice, including any request under the rights listed below: info@theconsciousness.ai.
If you subscribe, the following is stored:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To send you the newsletter |
| A random token | To confirm the address and to unsubscribe you. It is the only credential in the system |
| The wording of the consent box you ticked | Proof of what you agreed to |
| The IP address you subscribed from, and the time | Proof that consent was given, and when |
| Which page or link you subscribed from | To know which parts of the site and the code repository work |
The legal basis is your consent, given by ticking the box on the form.
Nothing is sent to the address until you click the confirmation link in the first email. If you never click it, the address is never mailed again and the record is deleted after 30 days.
You can withdraw consent at any time. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and one click is enough. The record is then kept marked as unsubscribed rather than deleted, so that a later import cannot silently add you back. To have the record deleted completely instead, email the address above.
The list is stored in a Cloudflare D1 database run by this project. It is not sold, not rented, and not shared with an advertising network.
The site measures which articles are read and which links are used. Two tools do this:
Both set cookies or equivalent browser storage. Neither is used to build an advertising profile of you. Most of the recorded traffic to this site is automated crawlers rather than people.
Payments are handled entirely by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe’s own checkout page and never reach this site or its servers. Stripe returns the email address, the amount and the payment reference, and those are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database so that a sponsorship can be recognised and a refund matched back to it.
Shop orders are produced and posted by Printify and its print partners, who receive the delivery name and address for that purpose.
The legal basis for both is performance of a contract.
| Processor | What it handles |
|---|---|
| GitHub Pages | Hosts the site and serves every page |
| Cloudflare | Runs the newsletter, sponsorship and shop backends, and their databases |
| Resend | Sends the newsletter and its confirmation emails |
| Stripe | Processes payments |
| Printify | Produces and ships shop orders |
| PostHog | Product analytics |
| Analytics, and the web font the site loads |
Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of the data held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, withdraw consent, or object to processing. Write to the contact address above. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live.
The date at the top of this page is the date it last changed. A change that affects how the newsletter data is used will be announced in the newsletter itself before it takes effect.
