Ljerka Ostojić co-authored Testing two competing hypotheses for Eurasian jays’ caching for the future, published in Scientific Reports on 12 January 2021. The paper lists affiliations at the University of Cambridge, the Institute for Globally Distributed Open Research and Education, and the University of Rijeka. These identify her affiliations in the publication, rather than her current appointments.
The contribution statement credits Ostojić and Johanni Brea with designing the study in discussion with Nicola S. Clayton, Piero Amodio and Benjamin G. Farrar. Ostojić collected Experiment 1 data with Amodio and Farrar. She and Brea provided critical input to Amodio’s first manuscript draft. These roles place her in both the experimental design and data collection.
The design separated predictions based on past food scarcity from predictions based on expected future availability. A spatially uniform model performed best in both experiments. The result concerns what a particular caching test can establish about cognition. It does not settle whether jays experience remembered or anticipated events, and it provides no basis for assigning Ostojić an exclusive biological theory of consciousness.
