Mark Fernandez was identified as principal investigator for Spaceborne Computer-2 in NASA’s feature of 23 July 2022. NASA described a commercial computing investigation involving the ISS National Laboratory and Hewlett Packard. Its station report of 10 May 2022 names Hewlett Packard Enterprise as the company working with the space community on the investigation.
In the July 2022 NASA feature, Fernandez explained the aim of moving computation closer to scientific data collection. He discussed image and signal processing, health care and DNA analysis as potential applications. His argument concerned faster access to results through local processing. The article does not supply a universal latency measurement or a completed workload count.
