Stuart Berg is the first listed author of the October 2025 MaleCNS preprint, according to its Crossref author record and abstract. The abstract reports a reconstruction of the male Drosophila central nervous system with 166,691 neurons and 11,691 types. These are manuscript figures. The June 2026 dataset release has separate proofreading and annotation updates.
The work supplies an anatomical reference for modelling circuits across the brain and ventral nerve cord. That scope lets researchers trace connections across a boundary that a brain-only reconstruction cannot cover. It does not determine the physiological rules needed to simulate those connections. The MaleCNS analysis separates the published anatomical claims from assumptions required for modelling.
