Builder The claim is about what the hardware does, and the philosophy is left open

Tadashi Yamazaki is a Japanese computational neuroscientist at the University of Toyama whose work runs spiking neural network models on Japan’s supercomputing lineage, culminating in the Fugaku era. He is the senior author of Microscopic-Level Mouse Whole Cortex Simulation Composed of 9 Million Biophysical Neurons and 26 Billion Synapses on the Supercomputer Fugaku, published in the SC ‘25 proceedings on November 15, 2025, with Rin Kuriyama as first author and Anton Arkhipov of the Allen Institute among the coauthors (DOI 10.1145/3712285.3759819).

The result pairs biophysical detail with extreme-scale engineering, a benchmark sustained at 7.13 petaflops across 152,064 compute nodes and a whole mouse cortex simulation at microscopic level. This site’s Builder category refers to that authorship, covered in the Fugaku mouse cortex analysis.

The work is a feasibility record for the emulation program’s simulation track and makes no claim about consciousness.
