Builder The claim is about what the hardware does, and the philosophy is left open

Liang Li is the first author of Oxygen vacancies modulated VO2 for neurons and Spiking Neural Network construction, posted on April 16, 2024 (arXiv 2405.00700). The work’s contribution is a design parameter. In vanadium dioxide threshold devices, the concentration of oxygen vacancies modulates the switching behavior, which means the neuronal behavior of the device can be tuned in materials processing rather than in software configuration.

That control carries weight for the hardware line this site tracks, because it moves the neuron’s variability and adaptivity into the material itself. The device-physics context, alongside the threshold-switching memristor work in vanadium oxides, is examined in the device physics analysis.

This site’s Builder category refers to his authorship of that work. It concerns device behavior for spiking neural networks and makes no claim about consciousness.

Known for. First author of the 2024 work on oxygen-vacancy-modulated VO2 neurons
