Builder The claim is about what the hardware does, and the philosophy is left open

Han Wang is the senior author of the device-physics line this site tracks in its memristive record. His group published A Tantalum Disulfide Charge-Density-Wave Stochastic Artificial Neuron for Emulating Neural Statistical Properties in Nano Letters on April 9, 2021, with Hefei Liu as first author, and Artificial Neuronal Devices Based on Emerging Materials: Neuronal Dynamics and Applications, the field review in Advanced Materials on March 9, 2023.

The 2021 device produces stochastic firing from the material’s own charge-density-wave physics rather than from a circuit simulating randomness, which is what makes it a neuron built from dynamics instead of a simulation of one. The 2023 review states the program’s motivation, new computing technology and more realistic brain emulation.

This site’s Builder category refers to his group’s authorship of both works, covered in the memristive neurons analysis and the device physics analysis. They make no claim about consciousness.
