Andrew M. Haun

Andrew M. Haun is an Assistant Scientist in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, working within the Wisconsin Institute for Sleep and Consciousness. His research investigates the visual system, spatial perception, and the mathematical formalization of phenomenal structure.

Haun is a key co-author of the foundational paper “Integrated information theory (IIT) 4.0, Formulating the properties of phenomenal existence in terms of cause-effect power” (2023, with Larissa Albantakis, Matteo Grasso, and Giulio Tononi). Haun’s work specifically demonstrates how 2D and 3D grid-like topological wiring diagrams in the visual cortex unfold mathematically into rich, extended spatial Phi-structures that mirror the phenomenal geometry of visual consciousness.
