Ludger Jansen
Ruhr-Universität Bochum
Ludger Jansen is a German philosopher working on philosophy of mind, metaphysics and the philosophy of religion. With Rebekka A. Klein he edited Seele digital. Mind Uploading, virtuelles Bewusstsein und Auferstehungshoffnung (Verlag Friedrich Pustet, Regensburg, 2022), a 191-page collection that examines the mind uploading promise against the theological tradition of resurrection hope.
The collection’s framing treats uploading as a cultural promise with inherited commitments. What the digital soul can and cannot carry is tested against the functions the religious traditions assigned to an immortal person, which exposes the certainty behind the technical debate as partly inherited rather than derived. This site covers the collection in the digital immortality under German scrutiny analysis.
The site assigns him no position in the consciousness debate, because the covered work is an edited examination of the promise rather than a stated theory of consciousness. The examination carries weight for this site because it locates the uploading debate’s confidence where it actually lives, in a long cultural history of surviving death.
