Integrated information Consciousness is intrinsic causal power, measured as integrated information

Camilo Miguel Signorelli is a researcher in mathematical consciousness science at the University of Copenhagen and the University of Oxford whose work spans compositional physics, cognitive neuroscience, and the formal limits of computation. His papers examine how biological organization, bodily closure, and multi-layer network dynamics separate living cognitive systems from standard Turing-style architectures, while keeping the analysis inside rigorous category-theoretic and mathematical frameworks.

At Models of Consciousness 7 in Copenhagen in October 2026, Signorelli serves as organizing chair and leads the plenary session and five-day working track on the Models of Consciousness transdisciplinary consensus project. That initiative brings mathematicians, neuroscientists, and philosophers together in structured daily sessions to separate shared formal axioms from empirical disputes across Integrated Information Theory, Global Neuronal Workspace Theory, predictive processing, and higher-order accounts.

His work bridges the formal and biological wings of the field. Rather than treating mathematical models of consciousness as automatically substrate-indifferent, he uses compositional mathematics to test which structural constraints a physical or artificial substrate must satisfy before a model of conscious experience can apply to it.
