Mirja Helena Hartimo PhD is a senior researcher in philosophy at the University of Helsinki. She specializes in Husserlian phenomenology, the philosophy of mathematics, and the history of phenomenology. She earned her PhD in philosophy from the University of Helsinki and has held visiting positions at the University of Vienna and Boston University.
Hartimo’s work examines how Husserl’s phenomenological method the careful description of conscious experience as it presents itself to the subject challenges purely formal, third-person approaches to consciousness. Her research argues that any complete account of consciousness must engage with the first-person perspective that phenomenology articulates.
She was a keynote speaker at Models of Consciousness 7 (MoC7) in Copenhagen, where she presented the phenomenological critique of computational and functionalist theories of consciousness.
